Quasi-adiabatic approximation for thermoelastic surface waves in orthorhombic solids

An asymptotic model for time-harmonic motion in fully-coupled linear thermoelastic orthorhombic materials is presented. The approach takes advantage of the observation that parameter expressing departure from purely adiabatic regime extremely small practice. Consequently, leading order bulk response turns out to be non-dissipative, and governed by usual equations elastodynamics with material constants. In case isothermal stress-free boundary conditions, it shown interaction dominated a layer. Hence, effective conditions may constructed, which duly account influence this layer successfully describe dispersion dissipation surface waves order. As an illustration, special isotropic half-space free we recover results Chadwick Windle (1964). Numerical comparison curves shows excellent agreement between exact problem corresponding quasi-adiabatic approximation, even relatively large wavenumbers.
